The Loft

loftroomLofts are cool. Open, airy, simple, modern, and chic. They also make great gathering places to hang out with friends and acquaintances. Do me a favor and walk over to the window … what do you see? For miles in front of you the city stretches out before you. The sounds and hustle bustle of city life reach up to you through the glass and you feel the electricity of a living city. Looking down below you notice people hurriedly walking, cars and cabs creeping along slowly, and vendors trying to make a living. The sun is setting casting long shadows from the tall buildings. Everywhere in front of you, almost like a visual explosion, lights flicker on as the city keeps moving forward at its frenetic pace to embrace the night.

You love the city and have learned to fully embrace it yet at times you wonder where God is. With so much commotion, so many people, and so many needs how do you make sense of it all? That also explains why you’ve grabbed a cab and traveled 34 blocks to this loft to meet with friends. The big question posed over dinner tonight as everyone feasted on Chinese noodles was how to renew this city? What impact can a group of ordinary people have on this city? A lot of ideas were bantered around but none came in for a landing. Finally in a sobering silence settled in as everyone just looked at each other.
